Moisture Systems Overview

What can Apollo's patented
moisture systems do for you?

naturally dry tank air vs moisturized air

With each breath taken on land, your body will naturally release and replenish humidity. The average humidity (moisture) level worldwide is approximately 70%. Compressed air for a tank has a humidity level of less than 0.1%.

During a dive, we continue to release humidity. However, each intake of dry air from a tank deprives the lungs and body of moisture replenishment. This unnatural lack of humidity is very hard on your body. The most obvious result of the loss is dry throat and cottonmouth.

Apollo's Bio-Filter and A-110 moisture systems will increase tank air humidity 30-70%. Normalizing the humidity level in your air supply will reduce and in most cases eliminate the negative effects of breathing dry air.

Benefits of proper humidity (moisture)

  • Minimizes risk of decompression sickness
  • More efficient gas exchange in lungs
  • Reduced level of fatigue from dehydration
  • Lower incidence of post dive headaches
  • Easier pressure equalization
  • No cottonmouth or dry throat
  • Each system also includes an activated charcoal filter (use is optional)
  • Charcoal filter removes micro-particulates from the air supply

How does the tank air become re-humidified?

The moisture wick is constructed of high-density foam. The dry wick is dampened by user prior to installation. Once installed the wick surrounds a flow tube that is the same diameter as the interior of your hose. The tube has small openings on the sides to create a vacuum when air passes through. Each breath draws a little moisture from the wick and adds it to the air stream to increase humidity.

Inside Apollo's a110 moisturizing regulator

The quickest method to dampen for first use of the day is to drop it into a cup of distilled or plain bottled water. Once wet, it will slide onto the flow tube and be quickly replenished after each dive without removal from system.

The wick and tube sit inside a housing that is hand-tight. You add moisture to the wick after use to ensure optimal humidity level during each dive. at the end of a day's diving simply slide the wick off and allow it to air dry completely before storage in travel case.

For scuba diving it is granted that an ample supply air comes first, but no less crucial is the quality of air. Moisturized air is essential to pulmonary respiration and comfortable, safer diving. Apollo's moisture system eliminates the problems associated with dry tank air. It also filters out trace particles of dust, rust, and odor. On land our nasal system filters out many impurities before air enters the body. This photo shows the inside of an air tank chosen at random from a rental facility. When air have you ever looked inside your tank?is compressed into a tank, small amounts become liquefied and settle in the cylinder. Salt, water, rust, silicon residue, and aluminum oxide can form inside the tank along with oil and carbon dust. This is due in part to poor compressor maintenance. A tank's design does not allow these contaminants to be released until the cylinder is cleaned and serviced. The build-up eventually leaves a residue in the tank. It is very likely that the air coming from a tank will contain odors and impurities associated with these types of contaminants. Using the optional charcoal filter will help remove micro-particulates from the air supply.

The Bio-Filter and A-110 moisture systems are perfect for all scuba divers seeking clean, moisturized air - this includes the adventurous travel diver enjoying locations where purity is questionable or the weekend diver who seeks comfort and additional safety.
